For example, even a very strong math student who has not specifically prepared on this point may go into an entrance exam and be unsure whether 1 is a prime number, and then blow what would otherwise be an easy question. She also devised a unique program for SAT and ACT prep that efficiently addresses the most significant weaknesses most students demonstrate. Brought to life in collaboration with a tutoring partner, the program runs locally using a team of tutors. Linda is systematic about ferreting out the problem areas of each student and relentless about working on these until they are mastered; in support of this she often uses a simple method that to date we have seen no other tutor use.
She has amassed a vast database of math problems and concepts that permits her to draw up examples of particular kinds of problems; she uses this and other resources to produce practice material that is unique to the individual student’s needs.
Linda does not toot her (is that a pun?) own horn, so I’ll do it for her. In tutoring, knowing the material is just the tip of the iceberg. Certainly, Linda does know the material. The rest of the iceberg is understanding and connecting with the student, and on this point, Linda is the ablest person I have ever known. She is an Einstein at figuring out just what makes a student “tick.” She has an extremely rich awareness of the many ways students block themselves from performing better.
